Mika L. McAfee has been working with families and children for the past 20 years. Her extensive experience ranges from counseling children and teens in schools, to working with expectant couples. She has also taught at the Community College and University level in Family Life, Parenting and Counseling classes. Throughout her career, Mika’s passion for nurturing healthy, functional families has grown.
She obtained her Master’s of Arts in School Counseling and Education from Seattle University, with a focus on Child/Human Development, Pedagogy and Counseling Psychology. She is also trained in Positive Discipline, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative therapy, and Real Justice™ Family Group Conferencing. Working as a School Counselor and Mental Health specialist in a variety of school settings and with a variety of ages has given her a deep and broad perspective on how family systems interact with the school age child and impact their educational experience.
Along with her educational and work experience, it is Mika’s personal role as a mother of three and a stepmother of one that most influences her work. Having witnessed firsthand the rapid and sometimes unpredictable development of her own children through infancy to the teen years — with the inherent struggles that a parent faces — she is exceptionally qualified to support families on their own dynamic path. Her experience navigating the educational system in regards to Learning Differences and Gifted Education both as a parent and as an educator, allows a unique and beneficial perspective.
Bringing her diverse work and life experience together with her passion for helping families thrive in the germination of SEED Parenting LLC. With Support, Empathy, Education and Discovery, let Mika help tend your family’s garden. Through the process of personalized coaching and education, you can weed out the unnecessary and potentially damaging parenting patterns, while supporting the healthy growth of intimate connections with your children and family.
